The President of Ghana, Akufo-Addo said he has spoken with his Nigerian counterpart, President Muhammadu Buhari, and that Buhari is committed to dialogue on the protests rocking the country over police brutality.

Nana Akufo-Addo, therefore called for dialogue between Nigerian government and #EndSARS protesters.

He warned that violence was not the solution to the crisis arising from protests against police brutality and bad governance in Nigeria.

He tweeted, “I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform.

“Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Buildings were torched in Lagos on Wednesday following the shooting of peaceful protesters by security forces.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had announced an indefinite curfew from Tuesday afternoon, claiming that criminals had hijacked the wave of demonstrations that erupted two weeks ago across the country. But protesters had defied the curfew and gathered at Lekki toll gate – leading to bloody confrontation with armed security personnel.

Amnesty International said least 12 people were killed by the Nigerian army and police in two locations in Alausa and Lekki toll gate on Tuesday.
