
The Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Christopher Ochor has doled out N5 million as empowerment to members of Market Women Association, Ukwuani Local Government Chapter as part of his efforts to enance the businesses of the people.
Hon. Ochor who disbursed the money under his foundation; Ochor Ochor Foundation, said the phase of the empowerment programme, which is second in a row is targeting 141 beneficiaries from the 10 wards of the constituency. He stated that the programme would help the women in their various businesses and urged them to put the money into judicious use for growth of their businesses.
He told the women that successes in their individual businesses, will not only improve their economic status, but those of their relatives and the community as well.
Ho. Ochor further stated that the empowerment is part of the Greater Delta Agenda, of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of empowering Deltans through Entrepreneurial trainings, and support for existing businesses.
Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Flora Alanta extolled the kind gesture of the Deputy Speaker for keying into the Governor Okowa’s vision to decongest the labour market in the state, and stated that the lawmaker recognised women as intelligent organisers.
The leader of Market Women Association, Ukwuani Chapter and Women Leader of PDP, UKwuani Local Government Area, Lady Betty Atagoshi, noted that women are power houses for economic growth in societies, therefore empowering them means empowering the nation.
She pledged their continued support for the PDP, Okowa administration and Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor for his commitment to welfare of the people.
