In a press statement signed by the Ilaje Youths Congress President (comr. Aiyenuro Shadrack Gbenga) released by the secretary (Comr. Ayo Esrom Peter).

Over the year we’ve witness significant retrogression in Ilaje Land. We, the Ilaje Youths Congress (IYC), express deep dissatisfaction with the state of our dear HealthCare. Despite being a mandate area in Ondo state as a member of the Niger Delta and our rich cultural heritage and vast natural resources, our people continue to suffer from inadequate healthcare, infrastructure decay, and environmental degradation. Ilaje Local government are facing a record-breaking predicament, Ilaje used to have Technical School at Ayetoro, Teachers Training College at Igboegunren, Fishing Terminal at Igbokoda as well as Oluwa Glass Company all this has experience deterioration as they are no longer functional. Ilaje Youths Congress (IYC) are calling on the State Governor HE. Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Hon. Donald k. Ojogo (MHR), the two honorables representing Ilaje at the house of assembly Hon. Abayomi B. Akinruntan and Hon. Princess Wunmi Fayemi-Obayelu, commissioner representing Ilaje in the NDDC, Hon. Otito T. Atikase, OSOPADEC, NDDC, Chevron and other oil companies operating within Ilaje nation as well as every concern persons and federal interventionist agencies to collaborate and profer solutions to help mitigate the situation of Ilaje nation.

The situation of Igbokoda general hospital is unspeakable. There is no standard alternative power supply in place in the case of an emergency, the wards lack adequate facilities. Hence we suggest and demand upgrading the Igbokoda general hospital to modern standards with state-of-the-art equipment, expanded emergency services, and improved patient care facilities. Build modern health centres in other Ilaje major communities or towns to provide essential healthcare services. Also Ayetoro used to be a city with great resources. Being the host of the one and only Technical college in Ilaje where great men and women have been model today is gradually going into extinction as a result of sea surge. We are calling on the government and intervening agencies to implement measures to safeguard Ayetoro communities from sea surges, including seawall construction, beach nourishment, and mangrove restoration.

This predicament is not limited to just Igbokoda general hospital or degrading state of Ayetoro but to all corners of Ilaje nation as other communities such as Messe, Awoye, abereke, Gbabijo, Gbagira, orioke amonge others also faces sea surge while others lack healthcare centres. We are demanding effective collaboration by all concerned bodies to immediately take action to address these pressing predicaments.

Ilaje Youths Congress are Demanding;
1. Adequate healthcare centres with modern facilities and services which will also create employment for our people.
2. That measures should be taken to stop the sea encroachment by implementing the construction of seawall and mangrove restoration.
3. While hoping the bill of establishing a polytechnic in Ilaje local government sponsored by Hon. Ojogo at the federal house of rep see the light of the day, the Teachers Training College, Ayetoro Technical School and Fishing Terminal all should be looked into as it will help boost our economy.

If not address the continous suffering of Our people from preventable illnesses and deaths will be unbearable. Also neglected infrastructure/institution should be revived so as to enhance social services and economic growth and development.

We, the Ilaje Youths Congress (IYC), will continue to advocate for the rights and welfare of our people. We demand that the government takes immediate action to address our demands. Together, we can build a brighter future for Ilaje.
