Dare-devil robbers Tuesday raided a branch of United Bank of Africa (UBA) at Issele-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State; killing a customer and injuring many.

The robbers also carted away millions of naira in an almost one hour operation carried out without any form of resistance from law enforcement agents.

An eye witness said the robbers stationed some of their gang members at strategic positions in the town, while the others visited mayhem on the bank unhindered for about one hour.

It was further gathered that customers were held hostage in the bank, while other gang members outside the banking hall rained bullets at random. In the shooting spree, a trader – an indigene of Issele-Uku from Ogbeofu village was shot dead while many others sustained bullet wounds.

It was also gathered that throughout the almost one hour operation, there was no response from the police station in the town as the station was earlier raided and the DPO and his officers had escaped and were in hiding.

Meanwhile, some of the eye witnesses spoken to had queried the usefulness of the “Operation Delta Hawk”, confirming that calls were put through to them but they never responded until the robbery operation was successfully carried out.

The Acting PPRO, Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the robbery incident.

At the time of filing this report, the number of those that sustained gunshot injuries, including the amount of money stolen in the robbery operation were yet to be ascertained.

It could be recalled that about three years ago, the same bank was robbed, customers injured and millions of naira carted away.
