A woman in her early 50s and mother of four, simply identified as Florence Owa, on Tuesday died by suicide after drinking a banned pesticide popularly known as ‘sniper’.
The incident occurred in Oghene Road area of Sapele in Delta State, and has reportedly thrown the entire community into mourning.
The deceased who was a devotee of a popular church along Awolowo Road, Sapele; was found unconscious at home by one of her children.
She was rushed to Central Hospital, Sapele where doctors on duty pronounced her dead on arrival.
A source said, she had been battling sickness and was recently discharged from a private clinic – a situation that a neighbour said could have pushed her to suicide.
Efforts to contact the spokesperson of Delta State Police Command, Onome Onowakpoyeya for comments over the incident have not been successful.
