Abductors demand N15m ransom

Popular Urhobo gospel singer, Evangelist Jerry Ekpekurho, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

Ekpekurho was allegedly kidnapped along the Osubi-Eku Road in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the singer was heading to his farm along the route.

The arms-wielding abductors were said to have forcefully whisked him to an unknown destination.

Ekpekurho’s vehicle was left behind by the kidnappers along the road which prompted relations to suspect it was a case of abduction.

The abductors reportedly contacted the family of the musician demanding N50 million to free him; and later reduced the ransom amount to N15 million, after pleas from his family.

Police sources in Osubi and Orerokpe confirmed the incident, saying a rescue team has been launched to secure the release of the musician.

The Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya also confirmed the incident but could not give details of the incident.

The gospel singer hails from Ewhrenene community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
