Explosion in a gas plant in Agbor, Delta State has severely injured six persons, with one of them having third degree burns and in critical condition.
Realtime.ng gathered that investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
Meanwhile, a petroleum engineer, Sunny Ideme while commenting on the incident; warned of dangers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas.
He said LPG is highly explosive, inflammable, volatile and remains one of the most hazardous petroleum products to handle.
Engr Ideme called on the Department of Petroleum Resources to expedite their regulatory roles to ensure that LPG plants are built to standard without compromise on safety.
He further called on operators of the LPG business to train and retrain their workers to ensure safety of personnel and their investment.
The petroleum engineer also advised users of the product to ensure that their gas cylinders are stored outside their homes, the kitchen windows open and ventilated before igniting the cooker. He further said they should check the expiry date of their cylinders in order to replace when due, and specifically warned those who use “Camp Gas” to be extra-careful.
