The Delta State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has disbursed financial relief to victims of the devastating storm that struck the state on April 15, 2025. The funds were distributed through the Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
The Honourable Member representing Okpe Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief James Augoye, confirmed the development. He stated that His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed deep concern for the affected citizens and directed immediate action to alleviate their suffering.
It would be recalled that the storm, which went viral on social media, caused extensive damage to properties, buildings, and livelihoods in Ughoton, Ugbokodo, and Jeddo communities in Okpe Local Government Area. Following the disaster, Hon. Chief James Augoye promptly visited the affected areas, assessed the level of destruction, and submitted a comprehensive report to the Governor.
Upon receiving the report, His Excellency directed the compilation of verified data of all affected persons and approved the release of funds for their relief.
Earlier today, at the residence of Hon. Chief James Augoye in Ugbokodo, beneficiaries from Ughoton, Ugbokodo, and Jeddo communities received their allocations. Some victims were awarded sums of one million naira and above, while others received five hundred thousand naira and other amounts, depending on the extent of damage suffered.
Affected persons expressed profound gratitude and joy upon receiving the financial assistance, describing it as timely intervention from the state government.
Hon. Chief James Augoye extends heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for his compassionate and responsive leadership in coming to the aid of the people during this challenging period.
