Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called on Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State to sustain their support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, highlighting its commitment to delivering on the MORE Agenda and its positive impact on the state.

Rt Hon Guwor made the appeal on Wednesday in his office in Asaba when he received in audience, the executive members of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, who were on a courtesy visit.

Addressing the delegation led by the IYC Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Igaramar, the Speaker commended Governor Oborevwori for demonstrating goodwill, not only towards the riverine communities but also to the entire Ijaw ethnic nationality and other groups across the state.

Flanked by his colleagues from Ijaw ethnic group in the State Assembly, including Hon Oboro Preyor, Emmanuel Sinebe, Pereotu Oloye and Ebitonmo Alapala; Guwor noted that the administration had embarked on numerous road construction and other infrastructural projects, many of which are either completed or ongoing.

He highlighted some of the ongoing developments in both riverine and upland areas in Ijaw communities and assured that as lawmakers, they would continue to represent the interests of their constituents effectively.

The Speaker further urged the IYC and other Ijaw leaders to remain steadfast in their resolve for peace and good governance, which the Oborevwori administration is providing to Deltans. He added that the Governor has the welfare and development of the people at heart.

He said, “I want to say here that the level of concentration in Ijaw nation has increased in the present political dispensation. The last administration tried but the Ijaws are experiencing more under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

“My colleagues and I at the Delta State House of Assembly will continue to give you leadership as your ambassadors in the State Legislature. I want to appeal that you should always reach out to us before going to the press so that you don’t look confrontational.

“I implore you not to be part of those who only see faults and never acknowledge positive development. Appreciate government’s good efforts when you see such as it is application for more. His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is very serious in completing all ongoing projects across the state, including those in Ijaw nation”, the Speaker stated.

On youth empowerment and capacity building, Rt Hon Guwor assured the delegation that the House would continue to advocate for the inclusion of Ijaw youths in relevant empowerment and development programs.

He however clarified that the State Assembly is not a revenue generating institution but would continue to use its platform to seek interventions where necessary for the betterment of all segments of the society.

Earlier, Comrade Igaramar commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the developmental strides recorded in Ijaw areas, but appealed for more government attention to human capital and infrastructural development in Delta Ijaw communities, including speedy completion of the Ayakoromo Bridge project and all others in the area.

Igaramar also called for better recognition of the Ijaw Youth Council by the state government and all institutional stakeholders, stressing that their peaceful disposition should be held in high esteem.

The IYC Chairman lauded Ijaw representatives in the Delta State House of Assembly for effective representations and urged them to continue supporting youth development initiatives in the state.

The IYC Western Zone which comprises Bayelsa, Delta and Ondo states, lauded the Speaker for his sterling leadership as the presiding officer of the Delta State House of Assembly.
