“It was a cold Sunday morning. I was walking to the nearby store to buy bread.
As I passed by a quiet corner, I heard a soft, strange sound. I stopped to listen again.
It was a sound of a baby crying.
The sound was coming from a trash bin.
I froze.
I thought maybe it was a toy… or my ears were playing tricks on me.
But no. It was actually real.
I slowly walked to the bin, scared and confused. I pulled the lid open.
And there inside a black garbage bag was a baby.
A real baby.
Wrapped in an old towel. Crying. Shaking. So small. So helpless.
I stood there for a second… staring at the baby.
Tears came out of my eyes before I could stop them.
Who would do this?
Who could throw away a baby like garbage?
What kind of mother will dump her baby just like that?
I couldn’t wait anymore, I quickly picked the baby up. She was freezing cold. Her tiny hands were like ice. She had no hat, no socks, just a little towel tied round her.
I wrapped her in my jacket and ran to the hospital nearby.
The nurses rushed to take her.
She was barely breathing.
They said I came just in time.
If I had walked past 10 minutes later, she might not have made it.
If you were in my shoes… would you have stopped to check the bin?”
