Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, in an uncontrolled rage, hushed award-winning journalist, Nifemi Oguntoye of TVC’s #BeyondTheHeadlines during a live broadcast on Tuesday.

Trouble brewed when the Nifemi Oguntoye compared the electoral process of 2019, under Muhammadu Buhari to that of 2023 that produced President Bola Tinubu.

“Mr Lawal, it is the same electoral processes in 2019 and 2023. I mean the same administration you served under. I didn’t see quite much difference between what happened then and now,” the anchor said.

In response, Babachir said; “Give me a break my friend! Shut up! Shut up! Get out! Give me a break! How can you say the Buhari government’s electoral process is the same as Bola Tinubu’s? What’s your problem? Give me a break…The Tinubu government didn’t win the election…”

Reacting in a professional manner, the journalist said: “I’ll take ‘get out’ because I’ve invited you to my house but I’m just trying to have an intellectual conversation with you Mr. Lawal…”

The former SGF, who served under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari during his first term, officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently.
He was removed from office due to discrepancies with a ‘grass cutting’ contract amounting to N544m which was awarded by his office.
He was eventually discharged and acquitted of the fraud allegation by an FCT High Court.

He announced his resignation from APC in a letter dated June 29, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of APC in Bangshika Ward, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
