A young man has died after being hit by a driver allegedly driving under the influence.
The accident occurred in Ughoton, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State at about 10 pm, Saturday 28 June.
According to an eyewitness, the driver was driving under the influence and had accelerated suddenly after starting the car – causing the vehicle to veer off the road, and ramming into the victim who was standing by the road.
Despite being rushed to the hospital immediately, the man could not be saved as he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The identity of the deceased was yet to be established at the time of this report.
The vehicle is currently at a military checkpoint located at Ughoton-Ugbokodo junction.
It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle is not its registered owner.
