“A man’s car broke down near a village. Seeking help, he entered the village and saw something surprising; an old man sitting on a cot, surrounded by chickens pecking at grains… and among them, a young hawk was pecking at the ground too!
Astonished, he asked,
‘How is this possible? Why is a hawk’s chick pecking grains like chicken?’
The old man replied,
‘I found this hawk chick injured in the mountains. I brought it home, nursed it, and placed it among the chicks. When it opened its eyes, it saw itself among chickens… and started believing it was one.’
The wise man requested to take the hawk chick, and it was released to him.
Every day, he tried to make it fly from the roof, saying,
‘You are a hawk, not a chicken! The sky is your destiny!’
But the hawk chick, scared, would lower its head, tuck its wings, and sit back on the ground.
For days, weeks, months… the wise man kept telling it,
‘Know who you are! You are a hawk, a dweller of the skies!’
Finally, one day, he took it to a high mountain and said,
‘Now either fly… or fall and perish!’
And he threw it off the cliff!
The hawk chick panicked!
It closed its eyes… but when it opened them, the ground was still far below.
It flapped its wings, found balance, and then… flew!!!
Soaring higher and higher, it screamed with joy,
‘I am a hawk!’
Below, the wise man smiled,
‘I didn’t give you anything new… I just reminded you of who you are!’
This isn’t just the hawk’s story—it’s our story our story, our children’s story too!”
