• Mr Aniagwu said the state government would continue to smoothen its relationship with federal bodies.

Tongues are wagging with the recent new found love between Delta State Government and the Tinubu administration as political juggernauts in the state continue to heap praises on the federal government.

Could this be an omen of the way the state government will go in 2027?

This comes into full context with the sweetener swung by the Rep Member, Waive to Gov Sheriff Oborevwori, when he urged Deltans to vote Oborevwori (PDP Gov, Delta State) on the banner of APC come 2027.

In the same vein, the Speaker, DTHA Rt Hon Guwor praised the contributions and dispositions of federal lawmaker, Waive (APC), remarkably after the statement.

In a similar bold move, the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers endorsed Tinubu for 2027. The endorsement was notably made by the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, the monarch of Gov Oborevwori’s home town.

On Friday, March 28; Delta Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, known for his hardline stance against APC, said the state has started reaping the gains from its partnership with the federal government.

And not to talk of rumour mills!

[“When all these prodigies do so conjointly meet, let not men say ‘These are their reasons …;’ For, I believe, they are portentous things [to come in Delta politics.”] – Julius Caesar: Act 1, Scene 3.

Pointedly, Mr Aniagwu stated at a press conference in Asaba while recounting the various federal government interventions that took place within the week and how they would directly impact the state.

He said, “Our state has started reaping from that relationship because, on Sunday, we joined the federal government for the concessioning of the Benin-Onitsha Expressway with a dual carriage.”

Mr Anagwu said the state government would continue to smoothen its relationship with federal bodies, starting from the presidency to all other government agencies, all with a view to ensure that the state benefits maximally.

According to him, the partnership will enable the government to make life more meaningful for its people.

“We have made it very clear over time that at the moment, we have one president and we will continue to cooperate with that president for the purpose of ensuring that our country functions effectively.

“That relationship has ensured that the federal government proceeds to complete the construction of the 17.5km alignment to link up the Second Niger bridge from Issele-Azagba,” the commissioner said.

He said the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who was on a two-day working visit to the state on Tuesday and Wednesday, greatly impacted the people of the state, adding that the state government remained grateful.

He said the First Lady distributed 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the South-South states, using Delta State as a focal point.

“She also empowered women petty traders with grants and gave food items to the vulnerable people, among other items, for the purpose of getting our younger ones to indeed rise and shine,” Mr Aniagwu said.

The commissioner, who frowned and clarified a viral video involving some nursing students during Mrs Tinubu’s visit, said it was not a true account of what happened at the ceremony.

“A viral video recently surfaced regarding the visit of the president’s wife. Let me state categorically that the first lady didn’t visit the School of Nursing in Agbor. She observed that the nurses present at the event had some expectations regarding the distribution of the medical kits.

“The first lady apologised to the nurses during the presentation. The apology was made because the current phase of donations and support was specifically targeted at midwives.

“She assured nurses that they would receive their turn in due time through the Renewed Hope Initiative. However, some nurses, who had expected equal treatment alongside midwives, were understandably disappointed,” he explained.
