• Says elaborate celebration ‘will be out of tune with national mood’
President Tinubu has given reason for cancelation of elaborate celebration of his birthday on 29 March.
He stated that such a ceremony will be out of tune with the national mood.
According to a post on X by the president’s Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president does not want government agencies to use public funds to place congratulatory messages to him on his birthday.
He also said that he would elect that well wishers give the money for congratulatory messages to orphanage homes or old peoples homes.
He acknowledged that newspapers who were expecting to make money may have been hurt.
“I know they will be angry with me. But I will apologize to them later”, he said.
