Delta Government has restated its commitment to repositioning the public education sector to global standard.

Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon Samuel Mariere stated this when he visited schools in Asaba and its environs to access compliance of pupils and students to the resumption of classes after the Christmas and new year holidays.

Hon Mariere stated that the board was out to change the negative narrative of people losing confidence in the public schools.

The SUBEB chairman said that part of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is to return the lost glory of public schools in the state by creating programmes that would improve quality education and confidence of parents in public schools.

He noted that funds have been made available by the Delta State Government and Universal Basic Education Board to ensure the training and retraining of teachers in the state.

The SUBEB chairman expressed optimism of improved teaching and learning in schools as well as good academics performance by pupils and students in public schools across the state.

He charged parents to meet up to their responsibility of enrolling their wards in school – noting that it is a criminal offence for parents not to enroll their children in school.

Hon Mariere, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, enjoined politicians, teachers and parents to bring back their wards to public schools.

He noted that the public schools have qualified teachers who were ready to impact knowledge to the students and pupils as the board has set out measures to ensure teachers’ compliance to the state’s rules and regulations on learning in the schools.

Reacting to the visit, the head teacher, Government Primary School GRA, Asaba, Deacon Emma Okakwu expressed satisfaction with the visit stating that it will spur the teachers and staff to work harder.

Some of the schools visited include; Government Primary School GRA, Uzoigwe Primary School and Asagba Primary School – all in the state capital city.
