The people of Umeh community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State can now heave a sigh of relief following the directive by the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to Setraco Construction Company to remediate failed portions of the major road into the community.

Succor came the way of the indigenes after a prompt response from Governor Oborevwori for immediate remediation of the failed portions of the road which has become a nightmare for residents and motorists.

The directive for the rehabilitation of the road came after leaders of Umeh community appealed to the state government to remediate the road which was destroyed by the 2022 destructive flood.

The Member Representing Isoko South II Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Ferguson Onwo, on Monday inspected the site, with a renewed hope of government resolve to get the work done without delay.

Inspecting the site, Hon Onwo who is the immediate past Majority Leader of the House, told the people that the state government has heard their cry and has come to their rescue.

Onwo who commended the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori for his prompt response to the plight of his constituents, stated that the remediation works became necessary due to the deplorable state of the road as a result of the 2022 flooding disaster.

The lawmaker urged residents of the community to corporate with the construction company handling the remediation works to ensure that the project is delivered before another flood sets in.

Onwo encouraged the people to always avoid acts and actions capable of sending wrong signals about the community, but to remain supportive in to government’s determination for peace, progress and good governance in the state.

He assured that the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori’s led administration will further promote infrastructural development across the state, even as he promised that Umeh community would enjoy more dividends of democracy from the state government.

President General of Umeh Community, Pastor Emmanuel Simeon and others who spoke in separate interviews expressed satisfaction at the quick response of Governor Oborevwori who ordered the immediate remediation of the road.

According to them, Umeh road, which became a death trap to motorists and residents after the 2022 flooding, connects to other towns and villages in Isoko nation, which made it very expedient for them to appeal to the state government for intervention.

They thanked Hon Ferguson Onwo and other political leaders in the locality for their quick intervention.

A representative of the Delta State Ministry of works, Engineer Mark Egwulusor and a representative of the construction company, Engineer John Akhasomhe assured the people that the project will be delivered according to specification and on time.

The timely intervention of the state government on the failed portions of the Umeh road is expected to resuscitate commercial activities in the agrarian community.
