A mob reportedly set a suspected phone thief ablaze at Eburu Junction, by Eboh Road, close to Okumagba Avenue, Warri, Delta State on Friday; as two of his accomplices escaped from the scene.
It was learnt that the suspect and two others had accosted a young man with the intention of forcefully collecting his phone from him.
The young man, was said to have put up resistance which attracted a mob.
Provoked by the resistance from the young man, one of the criminals shot the victim but missed the target.
As the mob was gathering, two of the criminals escaped, but the deceased was unlucky as he was caught and set on fire with discarded vehicle tyres by the irate crowd.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
