The University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State of Nigeria has declared a 5-day mourning, starting from Monday, April 10 to Friday 14 in commemoration of the demise of the 5th Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Nimi Briggs, who was at the helms of affairs of the institution from 2000 to 2005.

In honour of the erudite scholar, all UNIPORT flags are to fly at half mast, while condolence register will be opened in the office of the Vice Chancellor at the entrance of the Senate Building and the College of Health Sciences; the Students’ Union Government of the university, in a release signed by its President, Comrade Dickson Semibo and General Secretary, Comrade Madu Emmanuel stated.

All staff, students, stakeholders and well wishers are enjoined to pray for the repose of the soul of the Vice Chancellor and fortitude for the family to bear the great and irreparable loss, the release added.
