Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Hudu Yunusa told SaharaReporters on Sunday while monitoring the fresh conduct that the cancellation had to be done due to human error.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cancelled the elections held at Unit 03, Bekaji Primary School, Karewa Ward in the Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa state.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Hudu Yunusa told SaharaReporters on Sunday while monitoring the fresh conduct that the cancellation had to be done due to human error.

According to Yunusa, a youth corps member who was the presiding officer at the unit did not accredit voters with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

As gathered, only three persons out of the 750 registered voters at unit 03 were accredited with the BVAS.

“When the unfortunate incident happened, we sought approval from Abuja and we were directed to cancel what was done yesterday and to repeat the exercise today, being Sunday,” he said.

As things stand, voters are currently performing their civic duties as seen by SaharaReporters on Sunday.

A voter, Andrew Anthony who turned up for the fresh voting exercise described the action of the presiding officer as a show of incompetence.

“Yesterday, we had a lot of issues, I’ll call it incompetence because the lady that presided over the polls committed a lot of errors; she was unable to accredit voters with the BVAS. Only two persons out of 250 who voted were properly accredited with BVAS,” Anthony said.
