Fire on Monday night gutted a gas plant on Effurun/Sapele Road in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eyewitnesses said they heard a huge bang shortly before 10pm and that the entire premises of the gas plant identified as NELMIC Gas plant located opposite the Effurun Post Office was engulfed in fire.
According to Sunday Musa; “I saw it from as far as Ginuwa road. I suddenly saw huge red flames in the sky that just lasted some seconds and began to wonder what it was. Thanks to God for we have not recorded any casualty.”
“What I had was like a thunderous sound. The explosion has completely destroyed the gas plant,” another witness said.
The cause of the explosion has not been made public as the facility was on shutdown at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses also said a few houses close to the gas plant were affected by the fire.
It could however not be confirmed if there were any causalities from the inferno.
Firefighters from WRPC and Delta State Fire Service reportedly raced to the scene to control the inferno.
