The crisis rocking the Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is far from over as a National Leader of the party, Chief James Ibori, the immediate past governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, the Senator representing Delta South, Senator James Manager and other party’s bigwigs shunned the inauguration of Delta State PDP Campaign Management Committee.
Sen. James Manager, who represents the Delta South Senatorial District and is the only PDP senator in the upper legislative chamber, as well as the party’s governorship candidate, Chief David Edevbie, were other notable party leaders who skipped the inauguration of the campaign council that was held in Asaba to support Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s governorship aspiration.
Other prominent politicians who are not present include the party’s candidate for the Delta North senatorial district, Prince Ned Nwoko, the former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, members of the House of Representatives, commissioners, and special advisers, among others.
In a speech to party supporters, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa pleaded with enraged party members to practice peace and back the party’s nominee for future generations.
“Yes, there are problems in the PDP Delta state, but we’ll fix them, and the PDP will emerge from this stronger and more unified.
“I want to make a plea to the aspirants to accept everything and do your part to assist your brother because tomorrow will come. I ran for governor in 2006 but was unsuccessful, but I backed the candidate, and now I am governor.
“Our campaign will visit 270 wards, and those are where our votes will be cast. I focus my politics on issues, and I never use derogatory language when I’m campaigning.
“Those who claimed I had done nothing in the state of Delta are imprisoned in Abuja; he may be from Delta but imprisoned himself there,” He spoke.
Sheriff Oborevwori, the party’s front-runner for governor, praised Okowa for supporting and believing in him. He also pledged to safeguard Okowa’s legacy.
