The death of nine members of the same family under mysterious circumstances in Nagazi town of Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State has thrown the people of the community into fears and confusion.

This coming at the heels of similar incident in which four family members of Mopa-Muro LGA of the state died after eating yam/unripe plantain flour, popularly called ‘amala’.

The incident reportedly happened on Monday evening with five family members dying in quick succession at a spot.

Four others became very sick and had to be rushed to the hospital for attention.

Unfortunately, however they also died shortly after arriving the hospital.

According to a family source who craved anonymity, the father of the deceased victims has been arrested, while the mother is still receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

He said the actual cause of the deaths are not yet known, but that the people of the community are suspecting food poisoning or ‘spiritual attack.’

News of the incident which spread in the community on Monday evening threw residents into mourning and confusion.

Those who died in the unfortunate incident include head of the family, Pa Motilewa, his two daughters and a young female relation.

The community and government were still in shock over the Mopa incident when the current news broke.

Governor Yahaya Bello, represented by Kingsley Fanwo during a condolence visit to Mopa town promised to investigate the matter.
