Adeosun/Idi Orogbo community of Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, was last Sunday, thrown into rude shock when the skeleton of one of the community’s landlords was discovered on the bed in his room. The landlord, John Aderemi Abiola, was last seen in December 2018.
The discovery was made after the community decided, with the approval of the police, to access the landlord’s compound to clear the overgrown bush in order to ward off reptiles and rodents which have been wreaking havoc from the premises.
According to a source, as the years went by, the residents became curious about the landlord’s unusual long absence as he had told a few persons that he was traveling to Port Harcourt and to return for the Muslim festival in 2018.
When he didn’t return for the celebration, the acquaintances presumed that he had decided to stay back in the city. Calls then to his phone lines did not connect.
After noticing that the grass in his compound had grown too tall and may be providing cover to hoodlums, rodents and reptiles; the landlords in the area decided to get police clearance to access the compound to clear the bush.
The house was constructed on the backside of the piece of land while the front side had a thick bush that could not be accessed.

As the labourers were clearing the bush, they saw his Volkswagen Golf car with registration number: AKD 769 DC parked in the compound. The window to his room was found open. One of the landlords, Mohammed Ademola, who also worked for, and used to interact with the deceased, decided to check what was in the room. He raised the alarm when he saw the skeleton on the bed.
A bottle of Astymin syrup, packets of bicarbonate of soda, vitamin C, Coartem (an antimalarial drug) and herbal tea covered with dust were also found in his room.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Apete, SP Grace Akinsehinwa, was promptly informed and detectives were detailed to the scene.
It was gathered that police detectives, officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Ministry of Environment, were arranging to evacuate the remains and to contact the deceased’s family members.
His wife is said to be of Igbo extraction, and that they were separated.
