Dr Michael Mosley, the man who popularised the 5:2 diet, has revealed his ‘go-to breakfast’ for hopeful slimmers. The journalist and TV producer recommends that weight watchers should make eggs a regular part of their diet.
In a post on his website, Dr Mosley said: “Start the day with eggs. Boiled, poached, scrambled or as an omelette – they’ll keep you feeling fuller for longer compared to cereal or toast.”
Explaining that eggs are high in protein, Vitamin B and selenium, the former doctor also reassured dieters that consuming eggs will not raise cholesterol levels. The food guru revealed one of his own ‘go-to breakfasts’ in a video for Healthista TV – a mushroom omelette.

He chose to add onions (high in prebiotics), mushrooms (full of Vitamin D) and spinach (rich in nutrients) as well as flavour enhancers garlic, turmeric and chilli flakes. He emphasised that eggs only work as a healthy breakfast if you pair them correctly, the Express reported.
As processed meats should be eaten “sparingly” and “in small quantities”, the classic bacon and eggs combo should only be eaten as a rare treat. A more filling morning meal could come in the form of eggs and oily fish, such as salmon. By adding a dashing of chilli and luscious greens, this healthy brekky can be made more adventurous and appetising.
As for foods to avoid for the opening meal of the day, Dr Michael advises against eating cereals that are “laden in sugar”. Many cereals are loaded with added sugar, with the likes of Frosties, Coco Pops and Krave containing between 2.4 and 3.7 sugar cubes per 40g serving.
Trademark pastries such as croissants should also be avoided due to being high in carbs and calories, but low in protein. Previously, Dr Mosley has also steered slimmers away from high-in-sugar fruit juices, dried fruit, hash browns and bread.
