The Falconets of Nigeria have already qualified for the second round of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, grabbing all six points out of a possible six.
The Falconets will now shift their focus to the final group game against Canada.
Nigeria and Canada sit on the different ends of the Group C table, with Nigeria sitting at the top of the table having defeated France and South Korea by the same scoreline(1-0). While Canada, on the other hand, sits at the bottom of the table after losing to the South Korean Republic 1-0 and France by the same scoreline.
Canada qualified for the tournament after finishing third at the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s tournament in the Dominican Republic. They scored a total of 32 goals in seven matches, with their biggest win(13-0) coming against the Cayman Islands.
As for the Falconets, they came off another big win against South Korea that deployed a 5-man defence, a tactical battle it was!
Both teams have previously met three times at the tournament.
This is going to be their 4th meeting.
The first time both sides met was at the maiden edition, where Canada prevailed over Nigeria 2-0 in the group stage. The other two meetings saw Nigeria overturn the table against Canada by beating them 3-2 and 3-1 at the 2006 and 2018 editions respectively.
The Falconets, therefore, have the upper hand going forward into this encounter.
The Falconets, who will hope to finish the group stage with a 100 percent record, will now have to be more clinical in front of goals if they must top the group with maximum points.
