The leader of Baptist Street Vigilante operatives and some landlords of the street have been taken into police custody in Orerokpe, headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State after a tenant was shot by the vigilante operatives.
It was gathered that the
vigilantes, egged on by the landlords accousted the tenant for operating his generator beyond the approved time in the community.
Apparently, an argument ensued – leading to one of the vigilante operatives firing the tenant at point-blank range.
The tenant, whose name was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report miraculously survived the gunshot and was rushed to hospital where he is receiving treatment.
When the police at Ughoton got wind of the incident, they promptly mobilised and apprehended the vigilante leader, some of his officers and landlords who allegedly masterminded the assault on the tenant.
It was gathered that generators are prohibited from operating after 12 midnight in the community and that heavy sanctions await offenders.
