A resident of Igwuruta community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Henry Uzor has call out the DPO of Igwuruta Police Station over unlawful arrest and manhandling of his wife by the police which has landed her in hospital.
According to Mr Henry Uzor, who granted interview to our correspondence, his wife, Mrs Precious Uzoma Uzor was on the phone on May 7 with a yet to be identified person speaking about an elderly woman who was granted a 100,000 naira loan by one Mrs Chinwendu Elizabeth Nwezi in Rivers State and she stood as surety. The elderly woman has yet to meet with the due date of repayment.
Immediately she ended the call, I asked her not to worry that I was going to refund her the 100,000 naira so she can remit back to the Mrs Elizabeth.
“On the 9th of may 2022 which was Monday, I handed my my phone to my wife to transfer 50,000 naira to Mrs Chiwendu Elizabeth Nwuzi and promise to balance her the rest by the end of the month.
“I was on my way home from work same day after I have made the transfer, when I got a call from an unknown number saying that my wife is being dragged by unidentified people – a woman and five men.
“I rushed home, luckily for me, I met them outside my house while my wife was on the floor helpless. I tried to inquire what happened, the woman among the crew landed me a slap. i
“She was immediately followed by the men who attacked me while the woman went further to drag my wife on her hair. I started screaming that my wife is not yet strong for such manhandling as she had survived a car accident and has not been long she was discharged from the hospital.
“As I was screaming, a man asked everyone to calm down and identified himself as Gabriel Omale, the DPO of Igwuruta Police Unit.
He told me what brought them to my place and I explained to him steps I have taken to savage further crisis which I have receipt of the transfer from my account into the lady’s account by my wife.
Currently as I speak, my wife is at the Bridgestone hospital. Her card number is 9975, and she’s receiving treatment as she can’t walk due to the manhandling by the police officers.
As an ambassador of peace, I have never seen where anyone is tortured unlawfully due to debt.
So, I am calling for attention of Rivers States Police Commissioner on the wrong actions of his police unit on my wife”.
