Gunmen have attacked the Atani Divisional Police Headquarters in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State and shot four policemen dead.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday after a gun-battle between the police and the gunmen, suspected to be IPOB members.

Anambra Police Command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, led a team of police officers to the area to restore normalcy.

Ikenga who spoke to Premium Times, confirmed that four policemen lost their lives during a shootout with the gunmen.

According to him, the police acted promptly to salvage the facility.

Recall that on April 7, gunmen attacked Aguata Local Government Area headquarters, Anambra State, where Governor Charles Soludo hails from.

The council headquarters was set on fire during the attack.
