In a heart wrenching incident reported from Supaul district of Bihar, a woman allegedly poured kerosene on her two kids and tried to set them on fire after reportedly facing financial hardships.
The incident took place in Bhura Pathra village under Tribeniganj police station on Monday night. The two children were saved after the timely intervention of the local villagers.
The two injured kids, who suffered burn injuries have been admitted to civil hospital. The woman husband Gulab Sah works as a labourer in Punjab’s Ludhiana. His wife Ratan Devi alias Ruby lives in the village with their two kids Sangeeta Kumari (7) and Shiv Kumar (6), according to a report in Hindi daily Hindustan.
On Monday night, Ratan Devi dug up a ditch behind her house and place some stubble in it and set it on fire. She later took the two children there and pushed them into the fire after pouring kerosene on them.
According to villagers, some years back the woman tried to take her own life by consuming poison after facing financial troubles. However, she was saved from taking the extreme step.
Some other residents said that the woman was also troubled by debt she took from self help group.
Local villagers alleged police did not reach the spot even after cops were informed. However, SHO Sandeep Kumar Singh claimed the incident took place on Tuesday morning and police promptly reached the spot after information.
