The Majority Leader of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Chief) Ferguson Onwo KSC and wife, Lady (Mrs) Anthonia Onwo were on Saturday decorated as knights of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

Sir and Lady Onwo were among seventeen persons decorated as Knights of St. Christopher at a well attended ceremony held at the Cathedral of St. Paul, Oleh Diocese of the Anglican Church.

The investiture of the new knights coincided with the 60th birthday thanksgiving service of the wife of the Bishop of the Oleh Diocese of the Anglican Church, Mrs Peace Oruakpor and a book lunch in her honor.

The Majority Leader, Sir Ferguson Onwo who represents Isoko South II Constituency and Chairman, Assembly Committee on Information, at the colorful event with many dignitaries in attendance, acknowledged the grace of God in his life and those of his family. He stated that he has every reason to remain in the vineyard of the Lord.

Noting that service to God and humanity has always been a priority in his life journey, Sir Onwo said the investiture as a knight of St Christopher in the Anglican Communion was to draw him and members of his household closer to God.

Flanked by wife, Lady Anthonia Onwo, the Majority Leader pledged more commitment to activities of God and prayed for more God’s grace as he steps into the life of knighthood.

“It pleases God that I was today decorated knight of the Anglican Church. I have always been an Anglican and always at my best in keeping to the doctrines of the church and service to God. I thank God for this event and I ask for His grace to do more in His service and service of humanity “, Onwo stated.

For her part, Lady Anthonia Onwo thanked God for mercy upon mercies and prayed for sustenance of God’s love in her life, husband and household.

In a thought provoking sermon, the Bishop of Kafanchan Dioceses of Anglican Church, Kaduna State, Rt Revd. Markus Dogo, reminded the new knights that their investiture came with some challenges, as people look on to them for exemplary lives.

Rt. Revd. Dogo payed God to impact positively on the lives of believers, urging all to shun spirit of fears as ‘fear terminates destiny’.

The Anglican Clergy also charged the new knights to live righteous lives and prayed to God to provide for everyone despite challenges across the country.

The bishop of Oleh Diocese of the Anglican Church Rt Revd. John Oruakpor, said the investiture was in honour of God and service to mankind, even as he prayed God to grant them divine mercies.

Two Executive Assistants to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Dr Patrick Akporuno and Hon Orezi Esievo and others who spoke in separate interviews challenged the newly robbed knights to be good ‘Ambassadors of the Church of Christ’ and be role models in the society.

At a reception in their resident at Olomoro after the investiture, Sir and Lady Onwo expressed delight over the turnout of associates in both public and private sectors in their honour.

Some members of Delta State Assembly, including Hon Peter Uviejitobor, Ekpotuareyin Pullah and Emomotimi Guwor were on hand to join their colleague in celebration of the spiritual upliftment.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Chief Patrick Ukah was represented at the event by a Director in the office of SSG, Mr Andrew Atobremu.
