
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge Force Criminal Investigations Department, and head of Abba Kyari probe panel, DIG Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike is dead.
The DIG Egbunike was said to be feeling uncomfortable during the weekend and on Tuesday went for medical check-up. He was reportedly given drugs and asked to go home.
Minutes later the senior officer who drove to his office bubbling; slumped and died.
DIG Egbunike headed the Special Investigation Panel on the alleged involvement of suspended DCP Abba Kyari, former Commander of the Police Intelligence Team (IRT) over $1.1million Hushpuppi internet fraud.
Egbunike had previously served as the DIG in charge of Finance and Administration before he was appointed DIG Investigation. He hails from Onitsha in Anambra State and was the DIG overseeing the South-East geo-political zone.
A senior Police officer confirmed the death of Egbunike.
