Ayoung man identified as Tijjani Abubakar (26) of Gama in Brigade area of Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, on Tuesday, February 15 attempted to take his own life by drinking insecticide after he was dumped by his girlfriend who opted for a richer and more romantic man.
It was gathered that Abubakar, who sells mobile phones was rescued by his brother when he sighted him drinking the poison.
His brother said that immediately he saw him, he rushed, and with the help of people nearby, they were able to snatch the bottle of insecticide known as “Ota Pia Pia” from him.
Speaking immediately after he was rescued, Abubakar said he took the decision as he could not imagine life without the girl whose name was not revealed.
He said, “I was told that she is about to marry and that someone, not me, has already sent his parents to discuss the matter with her parents. That was why I decided to do this so that I won’t see the day.”
Kano State Police Command was yet to confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.
