Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, last night met with his two predecessors, Chief James Ibori and Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan alongside other caucus members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over deadlocked governorship succession meeting – signalling beginning of horse-trading, intrigues, alignment, re-alignment, and scheming that may characterise the next year’s election in the state.

The meeting, being the first formal gathering of ‘kingmakers’ in the state ahead of the 2023 election was held at Government House Asaba, and was expected to herald the mega rally of PDP in the state capital.

The late night meeting was the centerpiece of a marathon day for the three leaders who will feature in the rally billed to open the floodgates for other political gatherings in the days to come.

It was gathered that the caucus meeting was mainly on how the PDP would institutionalise zoning of the governorship candidates.

According to BIGPENNGR, the contention is whether the governorship candidate should be presented from Delta South or Central Senatorial District which currently have the largest number of aspirants gunning for the governorship seat.

Political analysts believe that Ibori and Okowa have big say on the senatorial district that will produce the next governor.
