A tanker laden with petrol has exploded and caught fire this evening at the outskirts of Ubeji in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, with many people sustaining varying degrees of burns.
The tanker which lifted the product at one of the depots in Ubeji axis was heading out of the Ubeji community when the driver allegedly sensed that the vehicle was overheating.
According to our source, the driver parked the vehicle to ascertain the cause of the overheating, but the tanker exploded and caught fire.
At the time of filling this report, fire services are controlling the fire, but many people, including passers-by were caught in the inferno – sustaining varying degrees of burns.
The victims have been conveyed to various clinics in the area for medical attention.
