  • Vow to end the directive, its enforcement.

South-East Governors on Tuesday stated that the sit-at-home directive of IPOB and the killings in the South East have crippled economic and social activities in the region. They also said that the region can no longer be sustained as the main business of the area remains commerce which cannot thrive with the directive and enforcement. They noted that most of the progenitors of the sit-at-home directive live abroad and are insensitive to the suffering of the people.

The governors said these after their meeting held in Enugu on Tuesday, October 5.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman, South-East Governors Forum, Dave Umahi, the governors vowed to do every possible to stop the sit-at-home enforcement in the region.

The communiqué read:  “The South-East condemned the killings in the region and have agreed to join hands with security agencies to stop the killings.

“The meeting condemned the sit-at-home orders, which are mostly issued by our people in Diaspora who do not feel the pains.

“In view of the information that even IPOB had cancelled the sit-at-home, the meeting resolved that governors and all people of the South-East do everything within the law to ensure that there is no further sit-at-home in the region and that people are allowed to freely move about in the zone.”

Traditional rulers and some selected leaders from the South-East were also at the meeting.
