Sir Victor Uwaifo, the legendary musician who won the first gold disc in Africa with his hit track, Jolomi is dead.
A family source who confirmed his death today, Saturday August 28, said he died after a brief illness.

The legendary guitarist who was a renowned sculptor, writer, musical instrument inventor and a university lecturer; fondly called ‘Guitar Boy’ celebrated his 80th birthday in March.


He held a B.A. Hons (first class valedictorian), a Master’s degree and a Ph.D in Architectural Sculpture (University of Benin Nigeria).
Uwaifo was the first professional musician to be awarded the National Merit Honours of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
He was also the first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.
