  • A man was electrocuted while cutting portions of a mango tree on a church premises on Monday.

Iortim Richard, the victim, died on the premises of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kontien area of Gboko South, Benue State.

A witness said that the deceased was directed by church officials to cut off overgrown branches of a mango tree, and that while he was doing so; his machete contacted a high tension electricity wire.

“The man was immediately electrocuted and his remains hung on the tree,” the witness said.

Youths of the community were reportedly enraged by the death of the church work, but the early intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Gboko ‘A’ Division, CSP Nerson Iorhemba, calmed the frayed nerves of the angry youths.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to receive the report.
