The National Broadcasting Commission on Monday suspended Channels TV’s programme; “Politics Today” over an alleged breaching of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) code.
In a move that did not receive blessings from many quarters, NBC also placed a fine of N5 million on the broadcast station for granting interview and airing views of IPOB which the NBC said were derogatory and secessionist.
The TV station granted the interview to the spokesperson for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emma Powerful, where the said derogatory and secessionist comments were made against the Nigerian state.
Confirming the suspension and fine, Acting Director-General of NCC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba emphasized that the IPOB leader made several secessionist and inciting declarations on air without caution or reprimand by Channels TV or the anchor for Politics Today, Seun Okinbaloye.
