…rescue 16 kidnap victims

The renewed efforts of the newly deployed Commissioner of Police for Delta State; (CP) Ari Muhammed Ali to reduce crime in the state, is fast yielding result as the command has recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against criminals. Responding to tip-off; the command engaged a gang of armed robbers in a gun duel – leading to death of two of the robbers and recovery of a sophisticated rifle.

The command also responded to a kidnap attempt at Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State and rescued sixteen victims.

A press release signed by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Efe stated:

“On the 3/3/2021, acting on a tip off, that some group of armed robbers/kidnappers were sited opposite federal road safety corps (FRSC) office Asaba, a team of  Rapid response squad (RRS) operatives, raced to the  scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.

“Two of them were fatally injured and later died, while others escaped. One AK47 rifle with BREECH No. 19567, and two Magazines with 18 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

“On the 3/3/2021 at about 1937hrs, a distress call was received that workers of one Zion Onofighe ‘m’, a hotelier, of Zion compound Abraka were being attacked by gun men at his site in Ogor, Ughelli. Patrol teams dispatched to the scene, engaged the hoodlums in a shootout.

“They rescued the hotelier and sixteen (16) workers unhurt. Also a Toyota highlander jeep was also recovered from the scene. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing”.
