The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council has described late father of Delta State Governor, Pa Arthur Okorie Okowa as a father not just to the Governor but to Deltans.

Chairman NUJ Delta State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu made the statement when he led members of the union’s state executive committee on a condolence visit to His Excellency, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa at Government House, Asaba on Thursday, February 4.

Comrade Ikeogwu said Pa Okowa was a man with exemplary leadership qualities, and added that he distinguished himself not just as a teacher and community leader, but as the father of one of the most distinguished governors in Nigeria.

The NUJ Chairman revealed at the visit that Sapele Chapel of NUJ had planned investiture on Pa Okowa as their Patron in recognition of his leadership disposition before his demise.

He also used the opportunity of the condolence visit to thank the Governor for his numerous supports to the media, especially Dr Okowa’s kind gestures toward the completion of NUJ Press Centre, Asaba.

Governor Okowa expressed appreciation to the state NUJ Chapter for condoling with him and noted that the visit along many others, has reassured the family that their father lived a worthy life. He said that the family is consoled by the fact that Pa Okowa was not only a disciplined teacher and committed community leader, but also had good relationship with people and ‘took seriously the things of God’.

The governor commended the leadership of the NUJ for the condolence visit and assured that the family would do everything in their capacity to sustain the legacies of their late father.
