A security guard has reportedly been killed by armed robbers in the Jeddo community, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sources told our correspondent that the guard was killed by a gang of robbers near a police base around midnight on Sunday.
The source stated, “Hell was let loose as residents of new Okpe Road area of the Okpe community of Jeddo witnessed multiple robbery operations.
“Burglary deterrent devices in victims’ houses were uprooted by the daredevil robbers, who stormed the area with highly sophisticated guns.
“The targeted person was a man of God and he escaped unhurt, while the armed robbers made away with their loot unchallenged. Only a security guard from a private security outfit was killed.”
Another source, a food vendor in the area, said that the gunshots lasted for several hours as if there was a war in the community.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, when contacted on Monday, confirmed the incident – adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.
“The DPO said that it was during a robbery incident that the security guard was killed. No arrest has been made for now,” the PPRO stated.
