Three suspected armed robbers were on Tuesday morning in Warri, set ablaze by an irate mob.
Luck ran out of the robbers who dispossessed residents of Okumagba Avenue in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State of their valuables.
It was gathered that two of the armed robbers were apprehended at Emebiren Junction, and a fleeing member of the gang hacked down along Okumagba Avenue, where they were given vigilante treatment by setting them ablaze.
Sources confirmed the incident, and said the deceased were members of an armed robbery gang who attacked residents of Emebiren Street, Warri and its adjoining streets on Tuesday.
The suspects were said to have stormed the area in a vehicle and a tricycle (Keke).
However, luck ran out of the hoodlums when some of their victims raised the alarm which attracted a mob and vigilante members. The robbers were subsequently chased and apprehended. Some members of the gang were lucky to escape the mob and vigilante groups.
A resident of Eburu simply identified as Osahon confirmed the incident, saying one of the suspects was burnt alive near Eburu Junction while fleeing the scene of the robbery.
Contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident but said only two hoodlums were set ablaze.
Recall that there have been rising cases of robbery in Warri and Effurun areas of the state following withdrawal of police as a result of the #EndSARS protest in the state.
