There is a senior student of my school whom I know well, his name is Amit.
His father owned a very small shop on the outskirts of my city and his mother was a homemaker. So the whole family relied on his father as he was the only source of income. He came from a lower middle class family.
When the CBSE 10th results were out, the whole school was stunned by his performance which was quite expected. He topped the whole district with a whopping 97%.
Everyone expected him to visit Kota (a city in Northern India with notable universities and colleges) as he had the potential to clear entry to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a premier institute. Due to his financial condition, he stayed in his small city and yet again amazed with his ecstatic performance in class 12 as he scored 95% with 100% in chemistry.
Through BCECE – entrance examining body; he got himself in Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology, a third grade government college of Bihar whose condition is pathetic.
A boy who was capable of clearing IIT ended up in a third class college! This was devastating for him, and people advised him against it but money created a stonewall.
He however decided to pursue his interest and prepare for Common Admission Test (CAT). He toiled hard and his hard work paid off when he got green light to attend Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore and even got a government job as an engineer in the country’s railway which was no less than a dream for him.
But life has its own way of pulling out the rug from right under your feet when you least expect it.
His father died in an accident. The world almost stopped for him. Yet again, money created the barriers between him and his dream Institute as the only earning member of the family is no more. He dumped the idea of studying in IIM to join as an engineer in the railway system to support his family.
Years passed and he got married and was blessed with a baby girl.
Later, he nailed it again. He cleared the toughest UPSC engineering service examination and this time, money did not have the power to stop him as he grew to become a top executive.
Points to ponder from the story – Kind of people that will never succeed in life.
- People who are stuck in their past –This man had a gloomy past but it did not stop him from holding on to his dream of becoming successful one day.
- People who play blame games – Never in my life have I seen this man blaming money or his luck for his circumstances, instead he exploited all the confidence from it and kick-started his career.
- People who play safe –If he had not taken the risk and stuck to his old job, he would have been living a meagre life.
- People who think it is too late – When he cleared this examination, he was married and had a one year old daughter. Still he remained focused on his aim and even fulfilled his responsibilities as a father.
- People who believe it is the end – If he had thought even once that leaving IIM for a low-paying job is the end, he would had never have been able to achieve the social status which he has today.
He proved that Dead Ends don’t exist!!
