Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno–South who stood surety for former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, standing trial for money laundering has been ordered to be remanded in custody.
A Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Okon Abang gave the order today (Monday), that the senator be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre over his failure to produce Abdulrasheed Maina in court.
Justice Abang held that having failed to produce Maina, Senator Ndume should be remanded – to be released if he pays N500m bail bond to the Federation Account, present evidence of such payment in court, or the Federal Government sells the bond property situated in Asokoro, and pays the N500m realised into the Federation Account; or he (Ndume) produces Maina in court.
Ndume was immediately led away from the courtroom after the judge’s pronouncement.
