…significant damage to storage vessel but no fatality or injuries

 The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reported an explosion at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40 facility managed by Elcrest Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited. The explosion occurred while the facility was undergoing production evacuation at Gbetiokun Early Production facility.

A press release by NNPC spokesman, Dr Kennie Obateru, disclosed that there were “no records of fatalities or injuries and no significant spill in the accident”.

 

However, there was a “significant damage to the marine storage vessel, MT Harcourt, which will impact production by about 10,000 barrels of oil per day.

 

The corporation (NNPC) “has since commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident with a view to averting future occurrence”, the release stated.
