The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has admitted and registered complaints of a threat to live, unlawful arrest and detention of five journalists in Warri, Delta State by men of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Monitoring Unit in lieu of their colleague.

The NHRC admitted and registered the complaints of the five journalists as, C/2020//CPR/953-958/HQ.

This is contained in a letter dated July 21, 2020.

The letter was signed by Nkechi Eseoga on behalf of the Executive Secretary.

In the letter, the NHRC said the complaints of the journalists which was brought before it by their Legal Counsel, Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi Esq, is currently receiving the necessary attention

According to the NHRC, “To this end, a letter has been sent to the Inspector General of Police(IGP) requesting an investigation into the matter and you will be kept abreast of developments in due course. Please accept the assurances of the Commission’s highest esteem and regards.”
