Following swift response by men of the Warri Fire Service, the fire which gutted a section of the popular Igbudu market in Warri South Local Government was successfully put out.

The firefighters were called to duty on Sunday when the fire broke out from a building housing several stores at the Hausa quarter end of the market.

Realtime.ng correspondent who was at the scene reports that the fire would have escalated to other parts of the market if not for the quick intervention of the firefighters as the building was consumed in the inferno.

Speaking with Realtime.ng the Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr Michael Tidi however frowned seriously at the attitude of some youths from the Igbudu community who threw stones at the truck of the Warri Fire Service leading to some damages.

Tidi who condemned the attack said it is unbecoming of the youths of the community to engage in such act whenever such incident occurs.

He urged the youths to desist forthwith since the firefighters are not the cause of any fire nor will know when a fire outbreak wants to take place.

“The youths stoned and broke the windscreen and side mirror of the truck.

“This is not the first we are hearing of this kind of attack from the community people. It is not right and it is something that is condemnable.

“I have told that we are going to get the leaders of the community to replace the windscreen as well as the side mirror.

“The fire service is not the cause of the fire outbreak and any time they are called upon, they are available to respond,” said the Warri South Council boss.
