The Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee investigating huge sum of money invested in the power sector without commensurate power supply has said, all agencies that benefited from the 1.3 trillion naira injected into the Nigeria’s power sector since its privatisation in 2014 will be made accountable.
Chairman of Adhoc Committee, Hon Alhassan Ado -Doguwa dropped the hint when the Central Bank Nigeria (CBN) made a presentation on its intervention in the power sector in Abuja.
Ado- Dogowa stressed that the committee will have no problem “shaking the table” to get to the root of the matter.
He observed notable discrepancies in the figures given by the CBN, Federal Ministry of Finance the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), on interventions in the power sector.
The lawmaker lamented that failure of agencies to appear at the same time when invited by parliament, saying it makes the job difficult as such discrepancies would have been reconciled if all three agencies appeared at the same time.
He, however, reiterated the resolve of the 9th House to venture into the murky waters of Nigeria’s power sector challenges and proffer solutions.
Earlier, the CBN governor, Godwin Emiefele gave a rundown of the interventions in the power sector since its privatization.
The CBN boss represented by his Deputy in charge of operations, Shonubi Adebisi noted that all interventions are in form of loans.
He disclosed that 213 billion naira was used as set up intervention fund in 2015, out of which 189.1 billion naira was drawn down, 60.8 billion naira refunded sofar.
He said there is an outstanding balance of 120 billion naira.
He noted another 701 billion naira intervention as well as 600 billion naira requested by the Federal Executive Council and guaranteed 100 per cent by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Contrary to other submissions Adebisi disclosed that out of the last 600 billion naira intervention, only 85.41 billion naira has so far been paid out.
The committee, however, maintained that the Minister of Finance, CBN governor and NBET will have to make a reappearance.
