Type 2 diabetes can lead to serious health complications if blood sugar levels are not properly managed.

Despite fruit being a crucial part of a balanced diet, two fruits can cause blood sugar levels to skyrocket “too high,” according to Diabetes.co.uk.

Type 2 diabetes – which new studies suggest a diet can eliminate the need for medication, arises when the pancreas within the body fails to produce sufficient insulin or the insulin it does produce isn’t absorbed by the cells. The primary function of insulin is to regulate blood sugar levels.

Without this process, blood sugar levels can dangerously soar. However, there are alternative methods to manage blood sugar levels and cholesterol, primarily through diet.

*Foods with high sugar or carbohydrate content are the worst culprits, as they can cause blood sugar spikes*.
Avoiding these foods for fruits may seem simple, but there are some hidden health hazards. For example, consuming some fruit can be a potential pitfall. “Fruit is naturally quite high in sugars and fruit will typically have more carbohydrate than non-starchy vegetables,” warns Diabetes.co.uk.

The health body points out that some fruits are more sugary than others. ” *For example, bananas and oranges are examples of more sugary fruits whereas berries are examples of less sugary fruits.”*

Given the high sugar content in some fruits, the health charity advises to “bear this in mind to prevent blood sugar levels rising too high.” However, it’s important not to confuse caution with completely eliminating healthy items from your diet

Fruit and vegetables are among the healthiest food groups, and the Department of Health reccomends that people should eat at least five portions of fruit and veg daily. When it comes to keeping your blood sugar at a health level, regular physical activity is key, says Britain’s NHS – aiming for upwards of two hours of exercise a week.

“You can be active anywhere as long as what you’re doing gets you out of breath,” they advise, suggesting things like power-walking, going up the stairs, or even vigorous housework or gardening.
